Modified Bitumen Plant
Modified Bitumen is a type of asphalt made to prevent deterioration such as permanent deformation (rutting), thermal cracking and separation of aggregate in the binder on the roads. Today, in superstructure productions, especially in recent years, its usage area has been expanded in our country, and it has been added to the contract conditions and started to be used.
Modification of bitumen is formed by adding Polymer Additives such as KRATON (SBS) and LATEX (LIQUID-SOLID) in order to increase the road carrying capacity of bitumen by 3%-7% with 50-70 penetration. Additives such as Lake Asphalt, Rock Asphalt, Thermoplastic polymer are used in the production of modified whole.
Modified Bitumen made with SBS and other Modifying additives It traps micro cracks and prevents them from growing and spreading with its three-dimensional network structure and elastic rubber islands. Modified butuminous asphalts are used on roads with heavy traffic load and high temperature difference.
In the selection of modified bitumen: It is determined depending on the climatic conditions and the type of bitumen coating. According to the climatic conditions of each region, for example, TYPE 3 is used for the Marmara region.
If Modified Bitumen is not used for a long time, it does not deteriorate. In short-term (1-2 weeks) cases, the mixture can be continuously mixed at 130-140 C with a low-speed mixer and kept homogeneous. In longer storages, the mixture is cooled and stored.
